GLOSSARY · VISITS

Standard of care, the bar every visit has to meet.

Standard of care is a legal benchmark that defines what a reasonably careful provider in the same field would do for a patient in similar circumstances.

01

What it means

It is the measure used in malpractice cases and in discipline by state medical boards. For telehealth, most states say plainly that the standard is the same as for an in-person visit: a provider treating by video or by questionnaire is held to the same bar as one treating in an exam room.

If a condition cannot be assessed safely at a distance, the standard of care calls for labs, a live visit, an in-person exam, or a referral before treatment.

02

Why it matters to a brand operator

Standard of care limits what a brand can promise. A provider must be free to decline a prescription, change a dose, order labs, or send a patient elsewhere, and marketing that guarantees a prescription or a specific drug conflicts with that duty. It also invites claims that the funnel pushed providers toward prescribing.

It shapes the product as well. Contraindication screening, lab requirements, follow-up timing, and refill rules all come from it. Brands that design protocols with their clinical leads, rather than around conversion targets, avoid rebuilding the funnel after the first audit.

How Tessic Health handles it

Clinical operations on Tessic Health are physician-led. Protocols, prescribing, and clinical decisions sit with licensed clinicians on the medical side of the structure, and with medication at 0% markup there is no margin to steer which drug gets prescribed.
